Chalkydri

I was rather inspired by the dragon designs Alexander Ostrowski did for the new Dungeons & Dragons edition, and decided to try my own hand at some dragon designing. So, this is my take on Chalkydri - the angelic dragons from early Judeo-Christian mythology. They're described in the apocryphal Book of Enoch as fiery, heavenly creatures who accompany the sun, "900 measures" long, with 12 wings (or 12 pairs of wings) each, heads of crocodiles, feet and tails like lions, and an overall serpentine appearance (their name translates from Greek as chalkós "bronze, copper" + hýdra "water serpent" - literally: "bronze water serpents")

It's all very mystical and mythological, you understand, but I tried to design a dragon fitting such a description that would still look like a reasonably believable creature. I looked for inspirations and references among ancient species of pterosaurs, vibrant-colored butterflies and moths, and various species of fish with extravagant fins. I tried to get rainbow hues from warm shades of bronze with bright blue patina. "900 measures" I interpreted to be 900 inches, resulting in a total length of 75 feet - a huge, whale-sized beast to be sure, but not an impossibly large one.
